Sunny Saturday

Saturday August 26th

I've been down on the beach swimming, sunning and snoozing this afternoon - in fact snoozing bigtime!  You could amuse yourself for hours down there people watching though! Some of the french men love strutting their stuff on the beach in their "swimming briefs' (I could use another name for them!) just as much as the women do! There are all shapes, sizes and colours of skin that have been pampered, shrivelled with age and sun, or else stretched in strategic places, trying to achieve that forever young and beautiful look!  Comforting to think one blends in well no matter what the old bod looks like!

                                                                   Baie des Citrons

It is our hottest day so far so the kids should be having a great time. Bill left at 9am for the airport and I drove into town to visit the markets. They are a vibrant blast of colour, smells and sounds and I love going there each year.  There is a wide variety of locally made produce for sale,  ranging from clothing, jewellery and artefacts to all the fresh fruit, veges and fish that the locals stock up on also.

                                                                        Taro and Yams

                                                                     Kanak Potatoes

                                                                         Tropical Yams

                                                                                  Prawns

Some type of fish staring forlornly at me through the glass!

                                                                                Crabs

                                                                          Octopus

                                                                      Extra fresh!

Anyone for NZ lamb chops at $40 per kg??

Background music in the fish department supplied by this old guy with his stunning backdrop.

I saw Isla, Charlotte and Jessika at the market this morning all shopping for that special something for someone at home.  Isla is heading off to an island with her family tomorrow so I look forward to hearing all about that on Monday.  I think it was Myra who told me yesterday that she was going horse-riding up a river with her host sister today so it may be interesting to watch how well she walks into school on Monday!!

Take care everyone and go the ABs tonight!

  5. That's wonderful, enjoy you're well deserved rest this weekend. I love the picture you paint us with your beautifully thought out string of words - it rained on and off here, today.. you're not missing out on much weather wise in Taupo.
And strutting bods lol, every winter my summer body gets brave with ideas of wearing a bikini when it gets hot.. but you see.. it never gets hot enough ha.
    Bless you, Colleen - you're a trooper.

  6. I can't stop laughing remembering some 30 years ago when I visited this place and seeing all the old men strutting around on the beach, doesn't seem like things have changed much

  7. Great to catch up on all the posts since I've been traveling too. Let Chris know I've safely got to Milan - a toasty 35 degrees here today, but no beach!
